Use space wisely

Combine obvious matching top layers when the move frees a tube, but avoid filling a container while more of that color remains buried. Keep one tube as a buffer for blockers. A useful cycle moves a blocker aside, joins the newly exposed color, and then moves the blocker to its own group.

When the board locks

Look for matching top layers that can be consolidated to empty a tube. If none exist, restart or undo from the earlier point where the final open space was committed. Accuracy matters when shades are similar.
